Windy Day

Abby got a kite for Christmas and has been dying to go fly it. Last week we had record high winds, so I thought we should take advantage and go to the park. Because I am not a kite flying connoisseur, I did not know how difficult it is to fly a kite is severely strong winds...needless to say, our first kite flying adventure was not ideal, but definitely worth it. I also had a hard time taking pictures with my iphone in the strong winds, so this is what we got.

BYU vs. Pepperdine

We took a drive to Malibu last month and saw BYU basketball play Pepperdine. The kids did great and we had a blast. We even ran into some old friends from our previous wards. If you happened to DVR the game, we got quite a bit of TV time :)

It's no surprise that Abby's favorite part of the game was climbing around the roots of this incredible tree outside the arena.

My little man

He is growing up so fast! At his 8 month doctors appointment, Caleb weighs 19lb 8oz and is 28.5 in. Caleb has become very active. Changing his diaper is a huge chore, and changing his clothes is nearly impossible. He has 5 teeth and another coming in right now. We all are in love with our little man!

Raccoons

We have had some visitors in our new home, and they are creepy, mischevious little things. On one of our first nights in this home, Jeremy and I look outside around 10:00 pm and noticed a raccoon staring at us from our sliding glass door. We walked closer to the door and turned the outside light on and realized there was not just one, but a family of five!! They were not threatened by us at all.

I was mortified. Since this episode, they have not been quite so brave as to stare at us from our sliding door, but they have rummaged through our trash on more than one occassion. I am seriously nervous every time I go to the big trash cans for fear a raccoon is going to jump out and give me rabies! We are now looking into home remedies to scare the raccoons away. Apparently, the smell of ammonia disgusts them, so this may be an option.

I do love our new home, and I love our unobstructed view, but I wonder what other critters we will run into with the wilderness around us.

Club 33

We have this awesome opportunity to go to the exclusive Club 33 at Disneyland through Jeremy's firm. Their prices are going up this year, so we made sure we got in one more visit on December 30th. It is an awesome meal and always fun to go to the "happiest place on earth" especially during the holidays.
Jeremy is a frequent participant of Cougarboard, and when a member found out that we had an "in" at Club 33, he has been boarderline stalking Jeremy about it. So we were joined by complete strangers for our dinner. I was a little bummed about this, but they ended up being so nice. They shared a love for our BYU Cougars, and they said we crossed off a goal on their bucket lists.

Merry and Bright

I love Christmas! Treats, presents, family, friends, cards, decorations, tree, music, lights. It truly is a magical holiday. We spent a lot of time in our home talking about the nativity and the story of Christ's birth. I was often brought to tears while teaching Abigail about it. Christmas is definitely my favorite holiday.

We were with the Wells family this year, and as the number of grandchildren multiply, so does the chaos. My dad even mentioned that it felt like the movie "Home Alone" when everyone is running around and no one can hear each other talk. We spent Christmas morning with our own little family in our new home. It was really special. Then we headed out to Mom & Dad's for a fun day.

Well almost...I have a little army crawling, babbling cutie! He is almost 7 months and starting to enjoy getting around. I just love watching him go through the different stages. He is cutting his third tooth and handling things really well. He is finally starting to tolerate solids. Love him!

Visit to Santa

The annual Santa visit has to be documented! This year, Jeremy took Abby on a daddy-daughter date to the mall to see Santa. I was a little bummed to miss it, but I got some quality time with my litte Caleb. Anyway, Abby was so excited to get in her Sunday best for Santa. She knew exactly what she wanted to tell him and was as sweet as can be (from what I heard). All Abby wants for Christmas this year is a Barbie make-up kit. That's what she has her heart set on--much to my dismay. She is a girly-girl and loves to play dress up. I just love this girl. She has been very good this year, especially considering all the adjustments of a new home and a new baby. I am sure Santa will pull through this year :)

Our New Home

We finally moved in to our new house on Monday! We are so excited to finally have a house to call our own. We were a little unlucky that it rained on moving day, but we were able to get it done pretty smoothly. Even though we are living in a maze of boxes we are very excited to make this house our own and finally decorate for Christmas!

The downpour of rain and weather in the 40's made for a pretty backyard veiw of snowcapped mountians when we woke up on Tuesday. Yes, there are mountains in Southern California!

Now all we need is some furniture!

How I'm Feeling

The house is a mess, laundry is full in every basket in every room, I look at my couch and realize there is a bunch of grime that needs to be cleaned off, we are moving in days and are hardly prepared, I have no idea what to make for dinner and don't plan on going grocery shopping, I wish I were more prepared for Christmas, and my "To Do" list is seriously a mile long. . .

Normally, these things put me in my "grumpy mom" mood, but today, I am feeling so grateful. Grateful because my problems really aren't problems at all.

I have two beautiful, healthy children that don't mind the cluttered house and don't mind macaroni and cheese again. Abby could care less about the laundry--as long as her princess dresses are clean (she is wearing her third of the day). Caleb is a bright light in my life. He is the happiest, most content baby ever.

I have a wonderful, supportive husband. He is my sounding board and my therapist :) He also doesn't care if the house is cluttered or if dinner is simple. He makes me feel beautiful even with no makeup on and spit-up on my clothes.

I feel busy, overwhelmed, and tired, but I am so lucky to have what I have. My
blessings are overwhelming.

A Feast to Remember

This year we had Thanksgiving at Tim's house with his family and Jeremy's parents. It is always so fun to get together and catch up. Even though Tim and Cami only live 40 miles away, we don't get to see them as often as we like.

I didn't take ANY pictures which is frustrating because we had so much fun. Fortunately, Grandma and Grandpa Hoopes got a few for us.

Thankful

I tried to have the "Thanksgiving" talk with Abby and asked her what she is thankful for:
Abby: I am thankful I get to live with my family.
Me: That is so nice. What else are you thankful for?
Abby: hmmmmm
Me: Are you thankful for your toys? (thinking I am talking to a 3 year old and that has to be something of importance to her, right??)
Abby: No Mom, I am just so thankful I get to live with my family

I love this little girl. She is so bright and good. She is full of love and gives me random hugs and kisses just when I need them.

Happy Halloween!

I have never been that excited about Halloween, but now that I have children, it is so much more fun! All the traditions including: carving the pumpkins, roasting the pumpkin seeds, going to the ward trunk and treat, dressing up, and just eating lots of candy make it way fun. Caleb was a pumpkin (that seems to be our standard "first Halloween" costume). Both Abby and Caleb have the best chubby cheeks which make the pumpkin costume perfect. Abby was Tinker Bell and thought it was the greatest. Let us not forget that Jeremy has to dress up each year for his firm's Halloween party, and nothing makes me laugh more than seeing Jeremy in this costume!

Pumpkin patch

We have actually visited more than one pumpkin patch this year and have had a ton of fun. These days, a pumpkin patch is not a pumpkin patch without a bouncehouse, train ride, and petting zoo. Some even had those little John Deer tractors to ride.

I think my favorite was the Irvine Park Railroad. We went with Doug & Melissa and their kids. Abby just loves being with Addyson. It is so fun that they love to play with their cousins so much. I have some really fun memories of playing with my cousins too.

I realize there are not many pictures of Caleb at the pumpkin patches, but he was usually just relaxing in his car seat while I chased Abby around. This particular day, he was thrilled to be out and could not contain the smiles:

My parents took Abby to a pumpkin patch by their house while Jeremy and I went on a date, and my dad got some great pictures of Abby in the petting zoo (he even took them on his i-phone! So proud of him)

Then we went to a pumpkin patch locally with Dad after he got home from work.

and loved it! I was so impressed by all the pioneers went through, and was especially touched by their faith and reliance on prayer. I am reminded of the scripture in Moroni, ". . . it is by faith that miracles are wrought." I am glad I watched it--definitely a boost in my week!

I can't believe how quickly this month has flown! Caleb is getting so big and he is rolling around all over. . . I fear I have a mover on my hands. He is actually a very calm, sweet little boy.

A good friend of ours from college took our pictures when we went up to Utah over the 4th of July. Caleb has changed a ton since these pictures--much more chubby these days!It was a very hot afternoon, but the kids did great and we really like how they turned out.

Abby's new room

We recently transitioned Caleb into his crib (I really miss sleeping next to him, but he was growing out of the pack n' play and we all sleep a little better). I asked Grandma Hoopes if she knew of any nice quilt shops while we were in Utah because I really wanted to decorate Abby's room. She told me about the BEST quilt shop! It is at Gardner's Village in West Jordan, UT and is called "The Village Quilt Shop". We spent at least an hour in there doting over all the amazing quilts. Jeremy and I finally found one we thought was perfect for Abby--it is bright, cheerful, and fun. She really does love her new space.

Grandma Hoopes bought Abby this doll. Her name is Olivia and she matches the bedding perfectly.

Tammy made those darling letters, and I made the memo board.

Found this dresser on Craig's List. I love it because it is so girly :)

Jeremy spent HOURS on this kitchen (we also found brand new on Craig's List). Abby really does love it!

Abby loves to be the "cooker", but when I asked her if she wants to be a chef when she gets older, she adamantly replied, "No, I want to be a mommy". That's what I always wanted to be too :)

We had to allow for something princess. Found these posters of the Disney movies on-line and framed them.

Blessing Day

Caleb was blessed by his father on June 26, 2011. (yes, this post is quite late but I had to jump through hoops to retrieve these photos). Anyways, it was a beautiful day and a very special blessing. Because the blessing landed on the weekend of Doug's wedding, we had a lot of family there. Grandpa Hoopes, Grandpa Wells, Great-Grandpa Cook, Travis Blackburn, Jeff Ostler, & Tim Hoopes were all in the cirlce. Such a wonderful, spiritual group!

Jeremy blessed Caleb to take pride in the gospel and to find a connection with the gospel and be willing to share it. He blessed him with a desire to serve a mission and share the blessings he enjoys with others. He blessed him to find an appropriate companion to take to the temple. He blessed him to be a helper to his mother and big sister and bring love and joy into our home. He told Caleb that we love him and have already felt so much joy having him in our home. It was really sweet!

We are completely in LOVE with our little Caleb! He lights us our lives with his little smiles and is even starting to giggle. I love kissing all his little chubby spots (legs, hands, feet, and especially those cheeks). I just can't help myself!

At three months, he is sleeping about 10 hours a night and would sleep more if his sister wasn't so excited about waking the whole house up at 6:30 :) He is holding his head up pretty well and is quite content in his swing or bouncy chair. He would rather not have to spend too much time in his car seat which makes shopping and Sunday drives a little difficult. But I really have nothing to complain about--he is an angel! Aahhh. . . if only he could stay this small! For now, I will savor every moment.

Sibling Love

Abigail loves her little brother and I think the feelings are mutual. Abby will lay down next to Caleb and tell me to get the camera and take a picture. She still tells everyone she knows about "her little brother", and for the most part, reports positively, but she makes sure they know how much he cries (however, she is a strong contender for that title as well).

These children are huge blessings in my life. I am so grateful they are healthy and happy.

Doug & Melissa Wells

Doug & Melissa were married in the Newport Beach Temple on June 25, 2011! We couldn't be more excited and thrilled for these two. Melissa brings two beautiful children into this new marriage and family. I seriously love Melissa! I think she is wonderful for Doug. She has such a calming personality and is so easy to talk to. She is very generous and kind, and I feel lucky to have such an awesome sister-in-law that I can also call my friend. You can tell that she and Doug are truly in love, and they really balance eachother out. I did not get the best pictures of their special day because I kept pretty busy with our two little ones, but it really was a beautiful wedding and reception.

I love this picture because Doug looks so happy! I did not get a photo to show off how beautiful the bride looked, but she looked gorgeous!

There were some yummy desserts at their dessert bar and the girls dove right in!

The reception was in the Kettley's backyard which is absolutely gorgrous. Abby ran through th trees all night like she was in a fairy garden.

Summer Days

We went to the Irvine Spectrum to play in the splash pad the other day and invited Melissa and her kids along. We are so happy to have these guys in our family now. They are so fun, and Abigail just loves playing with them. She and Addy are so energetic (especially together), and it is fun to watch them. Issac is always a good sport, and Caleb stayed cool in the stroller.

2 months!

I can't believe this little guy is already 2 months old! He is such a great baby. He is very mild-tempered--only crying when he is really upset. He loves to cuddle close with Mommy and I could hold him all day long! He is starting to show us his smile (so cute) and sweet personality! He loves his sister and gives her some pretty fun smiles! It will be terribly difficult for me to go to work next week and leave this sweetie at home. He is a great eater and a healthy boy. His 2 month stats are:

Happy 4th of July

We had a great 4th of July weekend. We flew up to Utah to spend some quality time with Jeremy's parents. Abby loved their backyard and would find golf balls all day if she could. Caleb was spoiled with a nightly lotion massage by Grandma. We all had a very fun and relaxing time!

I was impressed with Grandma's roses and Abby loved them too!

To beat the heat, we spent one morning at the park with a splashpad (genious idea)! We were not prepared with a swim suit, but she didn't mind getting soaked.

Abby got to see Whitney's horse, Pepesi, for the first time. She mentioned that was her favorite part of the trip. Whitney was so great with both Abby and Pepsi--such an awesome cousin.

Abigiail has been in a tap/ballet combo class for about 6 months. She loves it, and it has been so fun to watch her. They recently had a recital with the theme of Wizard of Oz. The youngest class were the lollipops. She did such a good job--we think she was the best. Notice how she is a head taller than her friends (they are her age).

Too Much Freedom

Abigail has had to learn to be more independent these last couple weeks because much of my attention is going to Caleb lately. It is really just during his feedings that I tell her to go play in her playroom. The other day, she was doing such a good job playing by herself, but it was really quiet for a LONG time. She came downstairs with my makeup bag and her face looking like this. . . yes, that is mascara around her eyes. I couldn't get mad at such a cute face!

Tiffany & Co

Although this may be a little silly to document, I was pretty excited to recieve my first (and maybe only) Tiffany's box! Jeremy told me that his partners left a gift for the baby on his desk. When he came home with a Tiffany & Co. bag, I was so curious and excited. It ended up being this darling collectible spoon. So although my first (and maybe only) Tiffany's gift was actually for my baby, I was thrilled!

Two weeks

We have had our sweet Caleb with us for 2 weeks already. He is a really good baby (still in that newborn honeymoon stage with lots of long naps). Caleb survived his circumcision like a champ (Mom and Dad did not). I am not getting a ton of sleep because by the time I feed, burp, and settle him down for sleep, it is about time to eat again! However, everything seems a little easier for the second time around. Abby loves him so much and every morning announces "That's my baby brother". He is already changing so much and brings a wonderful spirit to our home.

Even though we had a crazy weekend, Jeremy and Abby represented our family at his law firm's annual anniversary day at Disneyland. They had so much fun and Abby was thrilled when they brought in Mickey to meet all the kids.

Caleb Joseph Hoopes

Our new addition arrived on Friday, May 6 at 7:49 am. He came in weighing 8 lb 7 oz, 21 inches long. He has a full head of dark hair and is quite a cutie. We are already so in love with him and feel very blessed to have a healthy little boy.

Abby is doing really well so far. She is always very excited to see him and hold him. She is also very concerned if he fusses and very interested in breast feeding :)

I was induced at 7 pm on May 5 and had him the next morning. They used Cervadil to induce me, so it was a much slower process than pitocin. However once the medication kicked in (around 5 am), the labor moved very quickly. I dilated from a 6-10 in less than an hour. All in all, the delivery went really well.

What a miracle it is to bring children into this world. Caleb is adjusting really well and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him!

Happy Anniversary!

I can hardly believe that Jeremy and I have been married 7 years. Jeremy suprised me last night by taking me to Club 33 at Disneyland for dinner. It was so much fun and they prepared a special treat for our Anniversary. I honestly feel so blessed to have married such an awesome man. He is a wonderful husband and father!

Nap Time

There are days where Abby asks if it is time for a nap, and there are days where it is quite a fight. I know she is 3 and could probably forgo the nap altogether, but let's be honest, I am going to keep the nap alive as long as possible. These pictures are from a recent nap where Abby tore up her room, found one of her princess dresses, and eventually fell asleep in her chair with dress in hand. Such a funny girl.

Getting Pampered

I took Abby to her first pedicure last week (mainly because I can't paint my own toes very well anymore). It was a lot of fun, and Abby was really good. She walked in and knew exactly what color she wanted and was very focused the whole time.

A little scare

At my 35 week doctor's appointment on Wednesday, the doctor noticed that I was contracting a lot, so they sent me up to L&D to be monitored. Sure enough, I was having lots of contractions. I couldn't feel most of them, but I guess they still considered it pre-term labor. They gave me a shot of terbutaline (which totally makes you feel anxious and jittery) and had me drink a ton of fluids and the contractions calmed down.

Baby and I are fine. I am still having lots of braxton hicks, but I am hoping he doesn't come for at least another week or two. Sitting there all hooked up to the monitors made it feel very real. I am glad I didn't have to deliver, but it has certainly made me realize I need to get ready for this little guy sooner than later. I am excited to see him and hold him. Although he is going to turn our lives (especially Abby's) upside down for a while, we are waiting anxiously.

Meanwhile, the doctor is predicting that I am going to have another big baby--I guess I just have big babies. I am starting to get to that uncomfortable stage where sleeping is not so sound and getting up and down is a big ordeal. I am really trying to treasure and enjoy these last few weeks of just Abby and I. I can't imagine loving another like I love her. It is hard to believe that a 3 year-old can be your best friend, but she is! We have so much fun together with our weekly outings to the library, park, and zoo. Daily reading sessions and LOTS of dress-up. I am trying my best to prepare her for what is coming, but sometimes I don't think I am prepared :)

Skosh Monahan's

While Tammy was in town, we met up with Melissa and Doug for dinner at Skosh Monahan's. They have a really good gluten-free menu (for Melissa and her two children). It was a great meal and a really fun night. We were all there except Dad.

Wicked

Tammy and her youngest, Matthew, came into town last week, and we had a girl's night to go see Wicked! I thought it was awesome. The vocalists were amazing and I was glued the whole time! We had so much fun. Thanks to Jeremy for watching Abby and Matthew while we were out for the night. It was great practice for him putting 2 little ones to bed :)

Scarlett was in town last week and so Grandma Wells, Scarlett, Abby, and I spent the day together and went to the Santa Ana Zoo. These two love playing and are becoming close friends.

Spring Flowers

Flowers are starting to bloom in our yard, and just seeing them everyday makes me happy. I actually think most of them might be wild flowers, but they add color and beauty.

Abby is such a girl and loves flowers. She is always picking flowers (no mater whose yard it is!). She is always wiling to give them away as gifts to Mommy and Daddy.

Kissing boys

Last week at church, Abby's little friend from nursery sat behind us. They are cute friends and are almost exactly the same age. Everyone thought they were just so cute playing and giggling, then Abby decides to pucker her lips and waits. . . Liam gets the hint and kisses her right on the lips!! I gasped in disbelief while those around us were all laughing about it.

Later that night, Jeremy mentioned, "I guess our next family home evening needs to be about kissing boys!"

What? A 3 year old needs a lecture on kissing boys?! I have my hands full!

All dressed up

Grandma Wells bought Abby this darling spring dress for her birthday. Since we do enjoy the beautiful CA weather, Abby was able to wear it on Sunday. She was thrilled and even posed for the pictures.

I can hardly believe my little baby is 3 years old! She has brought so much love and joy to our home. She has grown up considerably this past year.
-Abby is a very kind-hearted and sensitive girl and loves to give hugs and kisses to anyone and everyone. If she sees a child crying, she willingly goes and gives them hugs.
-She loves learning and amazes us with all the things she comes up with.
-She is really good at playing pretend.
-Lately, it is all about princesses, and a day does not go by that she isn't dressed up like one.
-She is sleeping great in her big girl bed and is semi-potty trained with good and bad days.
-Abby is still taller than most children her age. She is also very healthy and rarely gets sick (knock on wood).
-She is excited to be a big sister, and we know she will be a great one (once she gets past the fact that she isn't the center of all our attention).

We had a little family birthday party on Saturday and had lots of fun.

Trip to Paradise

We were fortunate enough to spend a week in Kauai the first week in February. Jeremy's wonderful parents joined us, and we really had a ton of fun! We stayed on the North Shore at Princeville, and although it rained 4 out of the 7 days, it was warm and beautiful! We created some sweet memories that will last forever.

We did a lot of shopping and eating in this little town of Hanalei. We also attended church there which was such a neat experience.

We took a plane ride around the island and witnessed the beautiful Na'pali coast.

Abby loved the beaches there. The water was so calm and blue.

We even got in some mini golf.

Lakers Game

Jeremy and I went on a really fun date last week to see the Lakers beat the Nets. I had never been to the Staples Center before, and it was so cool. We got some good tickets from an attorney at Jeremy's firm and had a blast just being together. Not a great picture from the i-phone, but this is where we sat.

"Big Girl Bed"

It was bitter sweet moving Abby from the crib to the "big girl bed". She stayed and slept so well in the crib, so honestly, what was I thinking?! Abby loves her new bed mostly because of the new-found freedom.

The other night while I was at work, she walked right up to Jeremy's face at 3 am, woke him up, and asked, "Daddy, can I sleep with you?". So that morning I came home to my 2 favorite people sleeping in my bed. She doesn't do this too often.

Last night, Jeremy went to check on her before he went to bed and she was lying in the middle of her room asleep with no blankets.

Each new milestone just means she is growing up. . . too fast :(

Fun Project

During my Christmas break, I was able to find time for some fun projects. This one took a little over an hour and is such a great way to keep Abby's hair bows/flowers organized. All I did was paint a canvas art board and use push pins to wrap different ribbons around the back. Easy, fun, and inexpensive!

Jeremy and I both took 6 days off over Christmas, and it was an absolute dream! I haven't had that much time off in a long time, and I felt like a normal person. I didn't feel tired, I kept up on the house work, and I had energy. Jeremy's parents were in town, and it was just a great holiday.

Christmas Eve dinner with both Grandma & Grandpa Wells AND Grandma & Grandpa Hoopes. It was a really nice night.

Santa came. . . Abby was thrilled!

We had Christmas dinner at Tim and Cami's this year. They made a delicious prime rib dinner. It was such a fun Christmas from start to finish!

A fun, cold day at the beach.

We took Grandma and Grandpa Hoopes to the Santa Ana Zoo. All in all, this week was memorable, relaxing, and fun. I wish I could have frozen time. We feel so blessed with all the love we have in our life. I am especially grateful for the celebration of Christ's life and look forward to it every year!

It's a BOY!
I don't know why I haven't announced it yet, but we are pregnant! I am over the morning sickness and finally able to enjoy life again!

We found out yesterday that we are expeceting a boy. The ultrasound tech said that it was very obvious. I couldn't be more excited. Now we just have to get Abby to understand what is going on. I show her my growing belly and tell her we are going to have a new baby, and she proceeds to touch her own belly and says, "I am having a baby too!".

After finding out we went and got a few little "blue" outfits for him. So fun!

Nativity

We ordered a mini nativity for Abby this year and talked about the Christmas story as a family. I think Abby understood because when we were all done, she took baby Jesus to the corner of the room and said "Baby Jesus, I love you so much!" She stayed there talking to baby Jesus for a couple of minutes then went on to the other pieces. It was one of those sweet moments she provides us with often.

The lights are up. The Christmas tree is decorated. Still have some shopping and lots of wrapping, baking, etc. I can't believe how quickly it is creeping up on us. I am really enjoying Christmas this year because Abby is SO excited about every little thing. I frequently hear her say "The lights are so beautiful". When we were putting up the Christmas tree, I was trying to teach her the song "Oh, Christmas Tree". She eventually gave up on the words and made up her own:

Fun Fall pics

Before I start blogging Christmas (which I am so excited about!), I thought I would post a few older pictures to bring myself up to date. The past few months have been pretty busy. We are officially moved in to our new home--we are leasing, but it is a definite upgrade for us. We are settled and really enjoying the new area. Although we are only about 20 minutes away from our old friends, it is hard to keep in touch.

This new place is a detached 3 bed/2.5 bath home. It even has a little office and back yard. We feel really blessed to have found it, and feel we are in the right place. The main reason for the move was to be closer to both our jobs, and that has been really convenient. I am happy with the move, but I told Jeremy that I am really hoping our next move will be permanant :)

We did all the traditional fun things for Halloween and went to the pumpkin patch. This year, Abby really wanted to wear her cowboy hat, and fighting her about her outfits is a losing battle.

Thanksgiving came and went quickly, and I didn't get any good pictures. It was at my parents home this year, and the meal was delicious! Tammy and her darling family and Doug and his girlfriend (who we love) were all there. It was so nice to be together. We all went to Disneyland on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

This summer has been so different from last. Now that we are settled in our jobs, I feel like we are able to enjoy life more and not feel so stressed. Don't get me wrong, we are still really busy, but it is just different. Last summer, Jeremy was studying for the bar and I was finishing up my last semester, so this year is a dream.

We got Disneyland passes which we have already used a ton. We are going to the beach more and spending more time with family. Abby had a blast at the beach with her cousins, Scarlett, Tanner, and Cameron.

The past two days Abby has woken early from her naps crying. She is obviously still extremely tired still but will not continue sleeping unless I am rocking her. These moments remind me of when she was just a wee little one and I would sometimes just hold her through her entire naps. I love holding my sleeping baby-- it is so peaceful to watch her and I always marvel at the miracle of her little life.

When Abby was born, I was given a cross stitched saying by Mary Dawson Hughes from my Grandma Cook that said:
"To hold your baby soft in sleep,

Outlet Fun

I met up with one of my nursing school friends at the Carlsbad outlets to see her sweet new baby girl, Avery, and do a little shopping. It was so nice to see her and catch up. Abby loved all the fountains at the outlets. I love that I can go do little fun excursions with my best friend, Abby. She is the perfect companion and keeps me smiling.

First Dental Appointment

We were forced to make Abby's first dental appointment when she took a spill on the "just-mopped" kitchen floor. I wanted to get her teeth checked out because she landed pretty hard. Fortunately, her teeth are all fine.
I was definitely expecting the worst when it came to her first dentist visit, but she did awesome! The hygienist could not praise her enough. She did not even shed a tear and followed instructions perfectly. She loved her "Dora" toothbrush and bubble-gum is her new favorite flavor of toothpaste.

I have been anxiously waiting to get Abby in some sort of dance class and was so excited when this summer dance course came along. A darling girl from our ward does dance classes in the park for 2-4 year olds. Abby just loves it! She is easily distracted, as she is one of the youngest, but she hangs in there pretty good. I love getting her all dressed up and am such a cheesy, proud parent. Such fun memories. I will be sure to video her recital.

Squirrel Attack!

I got Abby what I thought were the cutest shoes ever, but I soon realized they were completely annoying. They have these replaceable squeakers in the heel and literally squeak every time she walks. She loved them and wanted to wear them everyday. I let her wear them to the babysitter one day because I knew she would only be there a couple of hours.

Turns out, Abby was not the only one who loves the squeaky shoes...squirrels love them too. While Abby was playing outside, about 5 squirrels encircled her and followed her wherever she went. Abby was nervously stomping her feet making it worse with each squeak. Then as Jeremy arrived to pick up Abby, a squirrel jumped from the tree and attacked! The attacking squirrel jumped on abby's pant leg in a failed attempt to get at the squeaky shoe.

Thank goodness Abby is okay and the squirrel ran away. However, it goes without saying that Abby was mildly traumatized by the attack and has not asked to wear the shoes again. So a warning to all parents...be wary of squeaky shoes.

Our little paleontologists. Brushing sand off fake bones was never so fun. Rachel was so content brushing the bones. It took about a minute for Abby to realize it wasn't exciting enough. What a busy girl I have!

They will kill us when we are older, but aren't they adorable! And yes, Abby is the whitest of them all.

Abby's birthday was supposed to be at the Santa Ana Zoo, but it ended up being at our house because it rained. I was sad, but it didn't seem to bother Abby at all! She had so much fun coloring, eating treats, jumping on the trampoline, and playing with friends. I didn't get pictures of everyone there--Grandma & Grandpa Hoopes, Grandma & Grandpa Wells, Uncle Doug, Scarlett, Kristal Ecker, Eliza & Chase Walburger, and Brandon Figueroa were there to celebrate.

Happy Birthday Abby! You have brought so much joy to our family! Abby is doing such fun things right now. I wish I could freeze time. She learns something new everyday. Some fun things she is doing right now:
• Loves animals and making animal sounds
• Singing songs like “Popcorn Popping”, “Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam”, “Old McDonald had a Farm”, “The Farmer and the Dell”, “Twinkle, twinkle little star” and lots of others.
• Loves to play with her friends
• Loves to color, play with her puzzles and play dough, and she is finally starting to entertain herself more.
• Still loves her little blankie and paci. I have been working on getting her off the pacifier (well sort of) without success.
• Loves going to storytime (although she still can’t really sit through a whole story)
• Counts to 10 and can handle some of the ABC song
• Loves to go to church
• Loves it when Daddy comes home from work to play with her

Some Perspective

We have a big picture of Christ at the top of our stairs. I often pass by it without thinking, but Abby has begun to mention it more. Probably everyday she points to it and exclaims "Jesus!". The other day I took a moment to talk about Jesus with her.
Me: "Do you love Jesus?"
Abby: "YEAH!"
Me: "Does Jesus love you?"
Abby: "YEAH!"
Then Abby proceeds to blow kisses to Jesus and gives me a big hug. . . This little moment made me realize these little ones that we care for daily are quite aware of what is going on. They have testimonies and are closer to our Savior than we realize. What a blessing it is to have the opportunity to raise children.

So far, the year 2010 has been really good to us, and we are already feeling very blessed. Right at the first of the year, Jeremy was offered a position as an associate attorney with a Healthcare/insurance defense firm in Brea, CA. Although he had other offers, this seemed to feel right to us.

He has already been working really hard, and even showed up in a shirt and tie on "casual" Friday. He felt pretty silly and did not hear the end of it all day. He completely redeemed himself when he found online coupons for the entire office's weekly lunch at a local restaurant. We will always be "starving students" at heart, and everyone really appreciated it. Also, we now officially know the reality of an attorney's long working hours, but we are all handling things well.

I haven't spoke much of my emergency room job, but I am really liking it. I started in October and am almost done with orientation (then things get interesting)! It has been challenging at times, but the staff is really helpful. The busy nights can get really stressful. It is a controlled chaos that I am starting to get used to. I love taking care of patients and love learning more everyday. Realizing what I do not know can get frustrating, but I can see how much I have learned and feel good about that.

I have seen some pretty intense and interesting patients including a heroin overdose, a broken femur that caused the leg to be contorted over the patient's head, lots of alcohol intoxication patients, lots of flu patients including the dreaded swine flu, newborn in respiratory distress, heart attacks, a patient with swelling from head to toe, and the list goes on and on. It is an exciting ER and I am being exposed to just about everything.

Abby is still the center of our world. It is amazing to watch how much she is developing everyday. She loves to sing and dance and is starting to put sentences together. She turns 2 in a month, and I wish I could keep her little forever.

Christmas Fun!

We had such a wonderful Christmas with Jeremy's family in Spanish Fork, UT. It was so fun to see Abby get excited over Christmas lights, decorations, Santa, and opening presents. She loves pointing out baby Jesus in our nativity. Children make Christmas extra special--I feel so blessed to have a little one!

We all had a fun time with Aunt Gretchen and the rest of the family that was there.

The highlight of Abby's trip was playing with Grandma's dog, Sheeba.

Plane ride with a toddler. . .

Well, Abby has been on a couple of flights in her short lifetime, and everyone of them has been an adventure. This particular flight was quite terrible! First of all, Abby is now the size of many 3 year-olds but is still under 2 and does not get her own seat yet. We just happened to be on one of the smallest planes I have ever been on and were very squished as it was.

The minute the 'fasten seat belt' sign came on, Abby produced a large dirty diaper. My sweet husband agreed to change her and together the two barely fit vertically in the bathroom! Fifteen minutes or so into the flight, we decided to let Abby watch a movie on our portable DVD player we had charged all night. She was so excited and kept saying 'Yeah! Movie!'. Much to all of our disappointment the DVD player had no battery because we charged it while it was turned on. . . lesson learned (the hard way)! So now that our perfect plan had failed miserably, we had the privilege of entertaining Abby for what was the longest hour and a half of my life.

She was very restless, high energy, and so sad that she couldn't watch a movie. We made it through the flight but not without tantrums and lots of treats. As we were leaving the plane, a man from behind who we had never met said, 'Bye Abby'. . . Abby politely replied 'bye bye'. What a crazy girl!

Thanksgiving

We had a really nice Thanksgiving this year full of family, food, and fun! Grandma and Grandpa Cook, the Ostler family, my Uncle Jeff and his children, Doug, and my parents were all together. The day before Thanksgiving we had a big trip to Disneyland. It was Abby's first official trip to Disneyland and she had a blast. It was fun to see her eyes light up when she saw the Disney characters and rode on the train, carousel, and Dumbo. She was in awe on 'It's a Small World'. We can't wait to take her back again.

Great-Grandma Cook, Grandma Wells, myself and Abigail. It is a rare treat to have 4 generations together at one time.

Utah vs. BYU

Jeremy and Doug went up to the big game Thanksgiving weekend and were very excited the Cougars came out on top....as if there were any doubt!

It was great to see the Cougars running out of the tunnel in the Royal Blue uniforms. A tribute to the 1984 National Championship team.

The game was an intense back and forth battle that came down to the final play in overtime...

What a finish. Jeremy and Doug even stormed the field after the winning score...Go Cougars!

My excitement could not be contained when we drove by a shopping plaza right here in Newport Beach on 17th street and saw that a Cafe Rio is coming soon! One of the reasons I miss Utah so much is because of this little restaurant called Cafe Rio. There is always a line at this place because it is that good and totally worth the wait. I personally love the pork salad or pork burrito, but everything on the menu is quite superb! Don't know how long 'coming soon' means, but I will be waiting and watching.

Well, after a long 4 months, at 6:00 pm yesterday, Jeremy logged onto calbar.org and found out that he passed the California Bar exam! We were anxious all week knowing that the results were coming. We are also able to celebrate with his sister, Gretchen, who also passed and many of his friends. It was a great birthday present for Jeremy--he wanted nothing else (his birthday is today)! He gets officially sworn in on December 1st. We have much to be grateful for and feel very blessed.

Aloha from Hawaii!

We just returned from 7 relaxing days on the North Shore of Oahu. We had such a good time, but we missed Abby dearly!!! Thanks again to Grandma and Grandpa Wells for watching her for the week.

We spent most of our trip relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, reading, and eating at lots of great places. We also checked out the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, enjoyed a luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center, cruised on a Catamaran, and Jeremy played some golf. We had a lot of fun at the PCC and especially enjoyed the new night show with the fire dancers.

The PCC Canoe Show was also fun.

We spent a day at Kualoa Ranch where many movies including Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates, and the TV show LOST were filmed. In the morning we enjoyed a catamaran cruise and then rode ATV's around the beautiful site.

Mary was quite the ATV rider! It was hard for the group to keep up with her.

Jeremy saved a couple mornings for golf. He golfed at Turtle Bay and Ko'olau.

Everywhere we went the views were incredible.

Jeremy is such clam! We stopped by Waikiki on our last day to see the touristy side of Oahu and went shopping and spent some time at the Waikiki Aquarium.

Overall, the trip was a great memory and lots of fun. We hope to return soon!

Graduation. . .Finally!

There were multiple times I wanted to give up, and I still can't believe I did it! I did it and can be proud of myself for that, but it did not come easy and not without some consequences. Jeremy and I both put on the "freshman 15" (again), Abby watched a little too much "Baby Einstein", the stress experienced may have taken years off our lives, and fast food/frozen meals became the norm. I will certainly not miss the 85-mile drive down to San Diego that I made multiple times a week. I feel grateful that I was not pulled over (an especial accomplishment because I sped 99% of the time)and had no car problems on my weekly ventures. I was truly watched over and have been blessed every step of the way! I am excited to be an RN!!

I did not get pictures of all my nursing school friends because it was a bit chaotic, but I can honestly say I would not have been able to do it without them! This is Melissa and Rachelle. The second is Tatum.

Thanks to all our family for all the support. My parents, Jeremy's parents, and Gretchen all came down for the graduation. We had a fun dinner afterward, and I couldn't stop smiling. Thanks and much love to all!

Although this summer has been filled with studying and stress, we have managed to have some fun too.

Tammy and her girls, Rachel and Lizzy, came to visit us for the day. Grandma and Grandpa Wells brought souvenirs from Hawaii for all the girls.

Done with the Bar Exam!!

Well, it is official! Jeremy went through the most rigorous 3 months of his life...culminating the last 3 days as he finished the California Bar Exam yesterday. He is sure relieved to be done and felt as ready as he possibly could after studying about 600 hours, taking about 50 essay practice tests, and completing more than 2000 multiple choice questions.

For those that don't know, the exam is 18 hours long over a period of 3 days and we sure missed Jeremy while he was gone. We will not know the results until November, so until then, we can enjoy more time together as a family, we are sure excited!

Jeremy's Graduation

After 3 long years of law school, Jeremy officially graduated on May 16. It was a very proud moment for me and Jeremy was pretty happy too! My parents, Jeremy's parents, Doug, Tim, Cosette, and Bella all joined us to celebrate. Now he just needs to pass the bar. . . wish him luck!
